Overnight, the NYPD cleared out Zuccotti Park, attempting to attract as little media attention as possible. Helicopters were banned from the airspace above so no video was taken. BBC America had it covered long before CNN. Something seems fishy here.
In the clear out, over 5,000 OWS Library books were destroyed. Our freedom of speech is dwindling in these days. Believe what you will about what Occupy Wall Street is really about, but the way it has been handled by the government and media is a disturbing look at our future.
As a former journalist and now librarian, fighting for the power of free speech is innate with me. Seeing what the government is doing to silence it has me saddened and enraged at the same time.
